Natural Haircut Design Specialist
Creator of Florescence
My love for and commitment to alternative and earth-friendly hair practices has its roots growing up in an artistic-maker family and in the counter-culture of the 1960's. Surrounded by recycling, hand-crafting, community-building, giving, living easy with the earth, and all the do-it-yourself earthy philosophies and practices of the times, its only "natural" that I do it in a different way.
As I have discovered, I love to support and uplift the well-being of others, and love to work with my hands. It's turned out to be a perfect blend of creative and soulful work.
With over 30 years of experience in the Bay Area I am blessed to have worked with all types of hair and from our wealth of ethnicity. My focus is "natural" and I have developed my own techniques that allow me to cut spontaneously and intuitively while maintaining a precise form and structure. I draw from a foundation of my artistic and hairdressing family, and trained with names such as Vidal Sassoon, Irvine and Rita Rusk, Yosh, Henry L, Jingles, and a handful of other very talented individuals. I also involve my interests and background in the arts and nature and my deep appreciation for spiritual and energetic work to shape my hand.
I developed chemical sensitivities early on in my career and so in true "hippy" style, I looked for and found an alternative to chemical coloring in the ancient art of henna and herbal mixtures from India and the middle-east area.
In 1991, a colleague and I opened the first non-toxic hair salon in the country that offered natural products and services along with a scent-free environment. Since then, I have worked with and helped thousands of clients by offering truly non-toxic color and product alternatives to those that need it and those that just want to use something truly earth-based.
I feel very blessed when working with a gift from the earth and I feel that the road to healing ourselves and our planet will be found by aligning to the earth's wisdom. This is just one small way to get there.
